It’s time!
After a very hectic and stressful airport check-in– the line was an hour and a half simply to check baggage, and then about twenty minutes through security– I was happy to make it to my flight just as they were about to begin boarding on a Dreamliner plane. Those new Norwegian planes are so cool! They have digitally tinted windows, lighting that helps you be less jetlagged, and a console with an Android tablet built in. (Also, as far as airplane food goes, Norwegian isn’t the worst.)
I arrived after a decent plane ride having gotten exactly ZERO hours of sleep and having to wait over an hour for passport control. Someday maybe I’ll be lucky enough to land myself one of those magical red passports that can get you through in twenty seconds. Picked up some liquor and chocolate at the duty free– Dumle, or soft chewy caramels in a layer of chocolate, in addition to Smash, which is my favorite– it’s kind of like a Bugle or Frito dipped in chocolate, all salty and sweet and delicious. (it is Norway, after all, so everyone buys liquor at the duty free when they arrive because it is so expensive otherwise.)
Thankfully my boyfriend was there to pick me up and rescue me from the RAIN– yes, that’s right, rain, not snow, because it’s even warmer in Oslo than it is in New York City right now. We came home and ordered kebab, which isn’t what the traditional kebab is in America, but rather a very popular and inexpensive takeout food that is similar to a gyro. After making it to about 9pm and continually dozing off, I finally decided to call it a night.
And here’s a cell phone picture of my view of Oslo from when I awoke.
